WTGS Fastpitch All-Stars

All-Star Team Information

The WTGS Fastpitch All-Star team brings together some of the top players from each Division to participate in a more competitive travel type program. Players tryout for the team and get a flavor of what more competitive softball is all about. This can be a way to further the players skills, and/or determine if the player has an interest in trying out for the Wave Travel program. The All-Star team is a higher commitment level than In-House, and players earn various positions through practice, skill and competency at that position, as well as effort in practice and in games. This is a great way for players to take their game to the next level, and determine if a more competitive softball experience is something they would enjoy. There is a Player Participation Fee for those that make the All-Star team, in past years it has been approximately $100 dollars. This amount will be finalized and communicated to the players/parents once the team is selected and the tournaments are scheduled.

2012 All Stars Teams

Warren Township Girls Softball is pleased to offer WTGS Fastpitch players an opportunity to participate on a 2012 All-Stars Team! This is an opportunity to play on a more competitive travel team that will compete against All-Star teams from other area leagues. This is also a great opportunity for girls who are considering trying out for the Warren Wave later this year to get a taste of travel softball. Three All-Stars teams will be formed based on current league divisions – Lower, Middle, and Upper. 
 
Eligibility & Commitment
Players will be selected based on tryouts available only to current 2012 WTGS Fastpitch players. Players who currently participate in a travel program (i.e.. Warren Wave) may not tryout for these teams. Players who participate in this program will need to make a serious commitment to additional practices and games. (In addition to their own WTGS team practices/games). 
 
Tryout Details
Tryouts will be held at Warren Township Park on Sunday, May 20 from 2:00pm to 5:30pm on Field 10. Please report to Field 10 for check-in and registration at least 30 minutes before your group is scheduled to begin. You will also need to use the time before your tryout session to warm-up.
 
  • Current Lower Division Players - check-in is 1:30pm, tryouts begin at 2pm
  • Current Middle Division Players - check-in is 2:30pm, tryouts begin at 3pm
  • Current Upper Division Players - check-in is 3:30pm, tryouts begin at 4pm
 Note: Separate Pitcher/Catcher evaluations for each division will be conducted immediately after the regular try-out times.
 
If the try-outs are cancelled due to weather, we will attempt to reschedule them as quickly as possible.
 
Team Selection & Managers/Coaches
Each person selected for these teams must make a serious commitment to attend all practices and games. Team selection will be made shortly after the tryouts. We intend to select 11 or 12 players for each team. These games will be very competitive. We will try to give playing time to every player.   However, we cannot guarantee that each player will get equal playing time. Players will be selected based on positions (i.e., pitcher, catcher, outfield and infield). However, while we may select a player for a specific position, the team Manager will ultimately decide positions on a game by game basis.   Managers and coaches will be selected after the team is formed. If a parent is interest in coaching, please indicate on registration forms at the tryouts.
 
Tournament Schedule
Teams will participate in 4 round robin tournaments. (3 games are played on each date.  Exact times will be announced by Managers):
 
Sunday, June 24th @ Vernon Hills
Sunday, July 1st @ Mundelein
Sunday, July 8th @ Warren Township
Sunday, July 15th @ Libertyville
 
Note: Due to scheduling conflicts, there will not be a rain date. If a tournament is rained out, we will probably not make up the games.
 
 
Practice Schedules
Practices will begin the week of June 4th. There will be one practice during the week and one practice on the weekend. The days and times will be determined by the Managers.

Cost
The cost will be $100 per player. The fee will be due at the first practice. Each team member will receive a uniform (jersey, shorts, and socks).
 
Also, at the conclusion of every game, both teams huddle at home plate and decide who on the opposition went the extra effort. Not necessarily based on stats, each team selects the opposing MVP and presents a medal to the player. I can tell you from personal involvement in this last year with my daughters, this is an everlasting moment. Additionally, each WTGS All-Star participant will receive a trophy at the conclusion of the program.

When are All-Star Team Tryouts?

Tryouts for the 2012 WTGS Fastpitch All-Star teams will be held Sunday, May 20th at Warren Township Fields.  Tryout times are based on your Division level.  Exact times and field will be posted as information becomes available. 

What are players asked to do at All-Star Team tryouts?

At tryouts the player's skills will be evaluated in multiple phases of the game. Players will demonstrate the ability to catch pop-ups and throw from the outfield, infielding and throws to first base, bunting and hitting off of the pitching machine, and if applicable to the player there will also be pitching and catching skills evaluated as well.

What is the All-Star Team practice & game schedule?

The practice schedule will be set by the All-Star team coach for each level, lower, middle, and upper.  Practices will begin in June 2012. The games are a round robin tournament format on Sundays, where each team plays three games. Games dates to follow.  More specific details  will be provided by each coach after tryouts and team selection is completed.
